Tight clumps of upright stems topped with clusters of starry, porcelaine blue flowers in late spring and summer to 45cm.  Broad, fresh green leaves that turn yellow in autumn.  Drained soil in sun.

Rarely seen in gardens but we've found that this species is a good, tough and reliable border plant with a good display of flowers and excellent autumn colour.  Grown with Geranium sanguineum cultivars in a partly shaded border it provides two seasons of interest; May-June for flowers, and August-October for foliage.

From Japan, Korea and China - one of a few species of Amsonia that doesn't grow in north America.

Syn. Amsonia sinensis.
