Ornamental Grasses

Welcome to the Ornamental Grasses pages. Here you will find those plants that belong in the true grasses (Poaceae), sedges (Cyperaceae) and rushes (Juncaceae) families. Other grass-like plants such as Ophiopogon (black grass) are to be found in the Perennials section.

As there are quite a lot of plants in this section we have selected some of the most popular to have their own sections and the rest are in the general listings, links to all of them below.

Molinia Clump formers for slightly better soil in full sun. At their best in autumn as the stems and leaves change colour.	Panicum True prairie grasses from North America, tight clump formers for drained soil in sun. Lovely late summer flowers and autumn foliage.	Stipa Some of the best known grasses are in this family but there are lots of others too. Drained soil in sun.	All Other Grasses ALL the rest that didn't fit into the other categories!

An attractive patch forming species with very upright fluffy flowers and long lasting seedheads to 1.5m or so. Most soils in sun or light shade. Native.

Loose clumps of upright stems with relatively broad greyish leaves and mad plumes of cream flowers that arch and curl to one side in summer. Drained soil in full sun. 90cm.
