A meadow species from central and eastern Europe and into Asia. Finely divided leaves and masses of mauve-pink flowers over a long season. 60cm. Ordinary soil in sun.

A little spindly, it is best grown amongst other herbaceous perennials so that it can scramble among them.  A valuable breeders plant as it gives the long flowering season to modern hybrids like Geranium 'Distant Hills' and Geranium 'Nimbus'.  Very suitable to naturalise amongst other Hardy Geraniums or indeed almost any other herbaceous perennials where the pretty flowers will poke out amongst the other plants.

We allowed Geranium collinum and a number of similar hybrids like, 'Distant Hills', 'Nimbus' etc to create a hybrid swarm amongst other meadow type perennials and grasses and in just a few years they had created a lovely, natural, looking area with many different colours and flower vein patterns.

Native to Eurasia and very variable in the wild, we are growing on a couple of wild sourced forms for future introduction.  Some wild variants may become species in their own right in the future.
