Wild collected form of this tuberous species from the eastern Mediterranean with darker flowers and a slightly more vigorous habit. Tougher and easier than normal, for well drained soil in full sun. 30cm.
Geranium libani makes patches of shiny, often marbled, leaves up to 20cm tall which emerge in autumn and stay fresh and green throughout winter. The flowers are produced in spring, on strong stems up to 30cm tall. As the plant is flowering the leaves are already dying down for the summer, and by July it will be completely dormant. Easy to grow in any sunny, well drained, even very dry position as long as it gets winter rain on it. We have it doing very well on the south side of a willow windbreak hedge, in sun all year, bone dry in late summer as the willow uses all the moisture but the ground gets quite damp in winter when it's in growth.
From Lebanon, Turkey and Syria.
