Bluish white spring flowers with darker purplish blue shading and stripe. Neat, tidy greyish green foliage emerges in autumn and looks good all winter. Hardy, 15cm.
Sweetly scented flowers but be aware that the leaves, roots and bulbs smell strongly of garlic/onion when bruised or cut.
This is one of those plants that has no obvious stand out reason why it is so good but for us it does indeed stand out head and shoulders above all other forms of Ipheion uniflorum that we have grown (and we've tried most of them!). Perhaps it's the fact that it seems to take the winter weather better or that it's grey leaves are neat and tidy.
Neat clumps for a sunny, well drained but not too dry spot. Also grows very well in a terracotta pot for use as a show plant.
There seems to be little reference to the name but presumably it comes from the area around Tandil, south of Buenos Aires in Argentina.
