Clumps of big, finely divided leaves to 1m and strong stems of creamy umbels followed by yellow-brown seeds in autumn. Hardy and very perennial. 1.5m. Ordinary soil in sun.

Many members of the Apiaceae promise to be perennials but then let you down.  This does not.  Our original plant, bought in c. 1998, is still going strong and has even been dug up and moved.  The new foliage is bronze flushed and curiously arranged and opens out to the most amazing finely divided, deep, glossy green leaves that can get up to 50cm long.

We've found it to be easy in ordinary soil in full sun and very hardy indeed.

From the alpine meadows of the Alps, Pyrennees and (as you'd expect) Peloponnese.

We obtained this many years ago labelled as Angelica arguta ex Washington State, USA under which name we have sold it for several years.  Only just worked out that it's been mis-named all this time... presumably if it was collected in the USA then it was an illegal alien!
