Clumps of upright stems with veined deep green leaves and clusters of rusty-brown to black flowers with yellowish throats in summer. Showy silky seeds later. Sun, ordinary soil. 60cm.
Obtained labelled as Vincetoxicum nigrum but I'm starting to doubt it! Vincetoxicum rossicum looks a possibility. The large number of websites listing these species as invasive are referring to the USA and not anywhere in Europe where it is native.
Syn. Cynanchum nigrum.
Disporopsis sp from Japan£6.00
New to us this more compact species makes neat clumps to 25cm. Like an evergreen Solomon's Seal and a useful evergreen groundcover for shade.
Vincetoxicum hirundinaria£4.50
Vinca-like stems with smallish, ovate leaves topped with spikes of scented creamy flowers to 50cm in summer.
Vincetoxicum scandens£5.00
A scandent (twining/climbing/scrambling) species with attractive dark green triangular leaves and clusters of dark blackish brown star-shaped flowers in summer. Sun. 1.2m?
