A rarely grown but good species slowly bulking up to make a nice clump of willowy stems with narrow greyish leaves topped with spikes of greenish cream bells in spring. 60cm.
Most often seen in cultivation under the incorrect name of Fritillaria verticillata, a closely related species. Fritillaria thunbergii is distinct with it's leaf tips curling into tendrils to help it scramble up it's neighbours.
From north western China, naturalised and widely cultivated in Japan.
Pennisetum thunbergii 'Red Buttons'£7.50
Brilliant red bobble flowers attract the eye from a distance on this loosely clump forming species for drained soil in a warm sunny spot. Bright green foliage. 60cm.
