The Bloody Cranesbill. British native hardy Geranium suitable for any ordinary, drained soil in sun or part shade. Magenta flowers from May to September. 20cm.
Low growing mounds of finely divied deep green leaves are covered with masses of saucer shaped flowers in a main flush from mid spring to early summer and then sporadically until the autumn. You can cut the plant hard back at the edn of the first flush of flowers to get a second flush 5-6 weeks later.
Can be a bit prone to mildew by the end of flowering in a dry season but again this can be sorted by a hard cut back, and the regrowth is usually clean.
UK, Europe from cliffs, limestone pavements, mountains and hills.
